What is the therapeutic indication of veenat?

Veenat has invariably used in the management certain types of cancers such as acute cancer of white blood cells, leukemia, cancer of white blood cells, tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, and other cancer. It is also helpful in myelodysplastic/ or myeloproliferative diseases.

How does veenat act?

Veenat contains a generic medicine called Imatinib, a kinase inhibitor. It inhibits the activity of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This blocks the further spread of cancer cells.

Under what conditions the use of Veenat is contraindicated?

The use of Veenat is contraindicated under certain conditions such as liver dysfunction, Pregnancy, the risk of embryo-fetal toxicity, risk related to fluid retention, severe CHF or left ventricular dysfunction, and risk of growth stunting in children or adolescents.

What other medicines show interaction with Veenat?

A patient is advised not to take Veenat along with these medicines such as Clarithromycin, Chloramphenicol, Ketoconazole, Ritonavir Carbamazepine, Dexamethasone, St John's Wort, Phenobarbital, Phenytoin, Rifampicin, and Nefazodone, as Veenat show drug interactions with these medicines.

What is the dosing schedule of Veenat?

Veenat capsule is commercially available in two strengths are 100 mg and 400 mg. For the treatment of Chronic myeloid leukemia: In the case of chronic phase a patient has to use 400 mg of Veenat daily and dose may be increased up to 800 mg in a day. For the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia: a patient has to take 600 mg of Veenat daily with induction, consolidation or maintenance chemotherapy. For the treatment of Myelodysplastic disease: A patient has to take 400 mg of Veenat daily. For the treatment of hypereosinophilic syndrome: A patient has to take 400 mg of Veenat daily. For the treatment of unresectable, metastatic malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumors: A patient has to use 400 or 600 mg of Veenat daily.

What are the noxious effects of Veenat?

A patient has to experience some noxious effects of Veenat such as stomach ache, bleeding gums, bloody nose, hazy vision, body pain, dizziness, diarrhea, dry mouth, headache, irregular heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, pale skin and slurred speech.

Safety measures:

  • If you are a lactating mother then avoid using this medicine.
  • If you are taking Warfarin then avoid using this medicine.
  • If you are hypersensitive to Veenat or its other components then don't use this medicine.
  • Veenat should be used with caution children because the safety and efficacy of Imatinib in children have been not established.
