Tuberculosis

An infectious and asymptomatic disease which is transmitted easily from one to another person is known as Tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease which is caused by bacteria mycobacterium tuberculosis. It targets mainly lungs in the body and may spread to other parts of the body and also from one person to another person. It spreads mainly through the air.

Types of TB conditions: Latent TB infection and TB disease. TB bacteria can live in the body without making you sick. This condition is called as latent TB infection. In case bacteria is present inside the body it becomes active and make the person sick that condition is called as TB disease. There were 9.6 million cases of active TB resulted in 1.5 million deaths are reported mainly in developing countries. After 2000 there was a decrease in the population who were affected by TB. Symptoms of the disease include a chronic cough, blood with sputum, fever, night sweats& weight loss. These are all observed at highly chronic conditions. Basically, tuberculosis is asymptomatic. It is a tough task to know at starting stages of the disease. Diagnosis of active TB can be done by chest X-ray, microscopic examination and culture of the body fluids.

Prevention of TB involves screening those at high risk, early detection and treatment of cases, and vaccination  with the bacillusCalmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine. Treatment includes multiple antibiotics like Tuberculosis vaccine and BCG vaccine. Patients may face multiple drug resistance (MDR-TB). TB bacteria cause the death of tissue in the organs which they infect. Active TB disease can be fatal if left untreated.
