Servent inhaler is used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and breathing problems. Generic Salmeterol is a main pharmaceutical component found in this inhaler and it belongs to the category of bronchodilator. 

Salmeterol works by relaxing the muscles of airways and opening air passages to improve breathing rate. It mainly works on the beta-2 receptors of lungs and it stimulates this receptor and induces the relaxation of muscles and permits the airways to open.

Servent is also used to prevent asthma attacks or exercise-induced bronchospasm.

Contraindication of Servent-

Servent inhaler is not to be administered in case of-

  • Hypersensitivity towards generic Salmeterol
  • If you are having an allergy towards food or drug
  • Epilepsy or seizure disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Thyroid disease
  • Kidney or liver dysfunction

Drug interaction of Servent-

  • Anti-depressant drugs- Nefazodone
  • Antibiotics- Clarithromycin, Telithromycin,
  • Anti-fungal drugs- Itraconazole, Voriconazole and Ketoconazole
  • Beta blockers-Metoprolol, Nadolol, Pindolol, Sotalol
  • Anti-HIV drugs- Atazanavir, Ritonavir, Indinavir and Nelfinavir

Storage condition of Servent-

  • Servent should be kept under the room temperature and it should be away from the direct contact of heat, sunlight and humidity.
  • Keep this medicine away from the reach of children.

How to administer Servent?

Servent is a powder form of Salmeterol, which comes as a special inhaler device preloaded with blister packs. Firstly, you should open a device and loads a blister each time when you are using Servent.

What adverse effects may be observed while using Servent?

Most commonly reported adverse effects of Servent are headache, muscle pain, muscle pain, joint pain, throat irritation, cough, and runny nose.

Severe adverse effects of Servent include severe asthma, insomnia, tremors, high blood sugar, weight loss and drowsiness.

What safety steps should be followed while administering Servent?

  • While using Servent, you should strictly avoid the use of Foradil, Symbicort, or Formoterol as it may cause drug interaction and induce severe complications.
  • Breastfeeding and pregnant women should strictly avoid the use of this inhaler.
