Why is Rhinocort used?
Rhinocort nasal spray is very effective in treating nasal allergies such as sneezing, congestion and runny nose caused by seasonal allergies. Rhinocort nasal spray prevents nasal polyps from coming back. It contains Budesonide (Corticosteroid) that stops the release of substances which causes inflammation.

How Rhinocort functions?

It decreases the migration of polymorphonuclear fibroblasts and leukocytes. It controls protein synthesis. It reverses lysosome stability and capillary permeability to prevent inflammation. It has potent glucocorticoid activity. It has very low mineralocorticoid activity.

Contraindication: Always brief out your doctor if you are taking antifungals (itraconazole), HIV medicine (Ritonavir), antibiotics (Erythromycin), antidepressants (Fluoxetine). Strictly avoid the drug in case of glaucoma, liver disorder, tuberculosis, herpes simplex virus, and ulcers. Always consult your doctor, when it is to be used by pregnant ladies and breastfeeding mothers. These drugs can hinder the growth of children so always talk to your physician if these symptoms persist.

Drug interaction: Do not use Rhinocort along with Crestor, Omeprazole, Prednisone, Ibuprofen, Lipitor, Trazodone, Lisinopril, Metformin, and Levothyroxine.

Dosing scheme: The dose for children below 6 years of age, adults and older patient is 64 mcg once daily. One puff into each nostril 32 mcg once daily. If patients do not get rid of nasal allergies, then increase in dosage is a must. The recommended dose for adults is 256 mcg per day (greater than 12 years), spray four puff per nostril once daily. The maximum dose for pediatric is 128 mcg per day ( between 6to 12 years of age), sprays two puff per nostril once daily. If you miss the dose do not cope up by doubling the dose.

What adverse effect you will observe while using Rhinocort: Some serious side effects seen with the use of Rhinocort are wheezing, nose bleeding, vision problems, chills, sores, irritation in the nose, swelling and white patches around the nose.

Necessary precautions: Always consult your doctor if you are allergic to this drug. Do not spray it in your eyes. Do not sit near infected patients. Rhinocort causes a decrease in white blood cells. If you are suffering from chicken pox tell your doctor whether to use Rhinocort or not.
