Advair HFA inhaler is used in the management of asthma in patients aged 12 years and older. It is also helpful in treating other breathing conditions and to prevent symptoms such as wheezing in adults. It contains two generic medicines known as Fluticasone propionate and Salmeterol.

How does Advair HFA inhaler act?

Advair HFA inhaler contains a combination of a corticosteroid called Fluticasone propionate and a long-acting bronchodilator called Salmeterol. Fluticasone propionate blocks the production of chemicals that causes inflammation. Salmeterol is a bronchodilator and causes dilation or widening of the respiratory tract. This helps an asthmatic patient to breathe more easily.

What are the contraindications of Advair HFA inhaler?

The use of Advair HFA inhaler is contraindicated, if a patient has sudden, severe onset or worsening of asthma symptoms, such as wheezing, cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath. If you are hypersensitive to Advair HFA inhaler, then don't use this medicine.

What are the drugs have some interaction with Advair HFA inhaler?

There are some medicines which show some interactions with Advair HFA inhaler such as Ketoconazole, Boceprevir, Cobicistat, Clarithromycin, Lopinavir, Ritonavir, Clarithromycin, Indinavir, Itraconazole, Nefazodone, and Telithromycin.

How to administer Advair HFA inhaler?

Advair HFA inhaler is commercially available in three dosing strengths such as Fluticasone propionate 45 mcg and Salmeterol 21 mcg, Fluticasone propionate 115 mcg and Salmeterol 21 mcg), and Fluticasone propionate 230 mcg and Salmeterol 21 mcg. A person can take 2 inhalations of Advair HFA inhaler 2 times in a day and the two doses should be about 12 hours apart. A patient should not take two doses at one time.

What are the adverse effects that a patient may encounter while using Advair HFA inhaler?

Sometimes a patient can face some common adverse effects while using this medicine such as Dizziness, headache, muscle ache, bone pain, nausea, apprehension, throat nuisance, tremor, vomiting, and difficulty in breathing.

Be attentive!!!

  • A patient can experience dizziness after taking Advair HFA inhaler; the effect may get worse if he or she consume alcohol with this medicine.
  • Advair HFA inhaler is not helpful in stopping an asthma attack once it started.
  • If your symptoms of asthma do not get better within 1 week, then consult your doctor as soon as possible.
  • Advair HFA inhaler can affect the sugar level of a diabetic patient, so use it with caution.
